Dr. Shirley M. Hord

Experience/Education
Dr. Hord studied the change process in schools and colleges, as well as leadership factors required to initiate and manage change. She is the editor of Learning Together, Leading Together recently published by Teachers College Press, co-author of Moving NSDC's Staff Development Standards into Practice, co-author of Implementing Change: Patterns, Principles, and Potholes, published by Allyn and Bacon, and lead author for Taking Charge of Change. Dr. Hord received the 2004 NSDC Susan Loukes-Horsley award and is a recipient of the Rogers L. Barton Award conferred by the President and CEO of SEDL for substantial contributions to SEDL's educational research and development efforts. Before joining SEDL in 1986, she was a program co-director, an assistant program director, and a senior research associate at the R&D Center for Teacher Education at the University of Texas at Austin; director of student teaching and faculty member for UT Austin's Science Education Center; and an elementary school teacher.

She holds a BS in Elementary Education and History, an MEd in Curriculum and Instruction, and a PhD in Education Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
