Classroom Compass is a collection of ideas, activities, and resources, for teachers interested in improving instruction in science and mathematics. This issue features Using Community Resources to Enhance Mathematics and Science Education, an introduction to SCIMAST's Directory of Science-Rich Resources.

This issue also has suggestions for using resources in the school and its immediate environment. An activity for upper-level classes illustrates a lesson that uses a museum to integrate mathematics and science learning. The list of resources points to some interesting web sites that can add outside experiences to lessons; it also suggests some available print materials that can be used to deepen classroom activities. An excerpt from the National Science Education Standards on providing students with time and resources for learning science is also included.
