SECC is providing technical assistance (TA) in developing guidance and assisting with professional development on research-based strategies for teaching and reaching diverse learners. This assistance includes support with the scaling up of Response to Intervention (RtI) practices to secondary schools.
This project is in the following state: South Carolina.

September
SECC continued to provide technical assistance and resources to the SCDE in the development of the state’s Response to Intervention (RtI) plan with a focus at the secondary level. SECC program associates Sally Wade and Don D. Doggett provided literature and consultation to Christy Scruggs via e-mail.
August
SECC is currently providing resources to Christy Scruggs of the SCDE to assist with development of the Response to Intervention (RtI) plan for the state. SECC has invited Scruggs to become a member of the shared collaborative work group with SECC, Mid-South Regional Resource Center, and SCDE. She will join the work group during its meeting on October 3.
July
SECC staff held a meeting with Christy Scruggs of the SCDE to begin planning for expansion of South Carolina’s statewide RtI implementation. South Carolina SECC State Liaison Don D. Doggett discussed collaborative opportunities within the SCDE to support scaling up of RtI, shared contact information for personnel within three school districts that are implementing RtI well at the elementary school level, and discussed SCDE assistance in supporting implementation across all middle schools.
June
SECC staff held a conference call with Christy Scruggs, SCDE Response to Intervention (RtI) unit leader, to continue planning and needs-sensing activities. An additional technical assistance session will be held at the Office of School Transformation Conference in July. SECC staff will assist Scruggs with developing a yearlong plan that will include capacity building at the district level, developing an RtI demonstration district plan, facilitating collaborative work among schools and districts, and establishing a blueprint for assisting schools in their implementation of RtI at the secondary level.

SECC staff continued to provide resources to the SCDE to support its RtI efforts.
April
SECC staff participated in the first Secondary RtI training session provided by the National RtI Center and provided evaluation feedback and suggestions for possible follow-up and next steps.
March
A new state RtI coordinator was hired, Christy Scruggs. SECC staff informed the new coordinator of the support that is available to her unit as it relates to the implementation of RtI. SECC staff continued to provide resources to the SCDE to support its RtI efforts.

SECC staff continued to provide resources to the SCDE to support their RtI efforts.
January
SECC staff held a conference call with Bev Collum at the SCDE and the National Response to Intervention (RtI) Center to discuss how to support SC in its RtI work for the remainder of the year. The SCDE requested that SECC staff participate in the spring trainings, which will be provided by the National RtI Center.
