Office of School Transformation: SIG Teacher Evaluation Component
SECC is providing technical assistance to the Office of School Transformation regarding the piloting of a new teacher evaluation system based on a hybrid model. The evaluation system will use multiple valid measures including data in student growth and other measures of professional practice. This "hybrid" evaluation system will be piloted in School Improvement Grant (SIG) schools that have received a School Improvement Grant.

2012
September
In September, SECC staff continued to provide support for SCDE’s evaluator training for the new evaluation system for SIG schools. SECC staff attended the U.S. Department of Education Teacher Quality Conference with SCDE staff. In addition, SECC shared resources with SCDE including an Information Request on the preparation of evaluators for state educator evaluation systems.
August
During August, SECC continued to provide SCDE with technical assistance to support the enhanced Assisting, Developing, and Evaluating Professional Teaching (ADEPT) process for certified staff in School Improvement Grant (SIG) schools.
July
SECC was informed that South Carolina’s ESEA Flexibility Request had been approved. South Carolina’s SIG schools will begin piloting the new evaluation system in the upcoming school year.
May
SECC staff continued to provide the Office of School Transformation resources to support their teacher evaluation efforts. The SCDE is still awaiting approval of its ESEA wavier from the U.S. Department of Education. The SIG unit is continuing to participate in the SCDE teacher evaluation sessions provided by the Office of Educator Evaluation.
April
SECC staff continued to provide the Office of School Transformation resources to support their teacher evaluation efforts. The SCDE began working with the SIG unit and identified SIG schools to develop the SC ESEA value-added model. Two sessions were held in April.
March
SECC staff assisted the SIG unit in a follow-up technical assistance session that dealt with data-driven decisions and finalizing selected teacher/principal evaluation models.
February
SECC staff continued to provide the Office of School Transformation resources to support their teacher evaluation efforts.
January
SECC staff assisted in the development of a School Improvement Grant technical assistance (TA) session with the Office of School Transformation. SECC staff also facilitated breakout sessions on the discussion of possible teacher/principal evaluation models for schools/local educational agencies (LEAs) to consider (i.e., TAP, the SC ESEA Wavier model, and/or LEA-developed models). SECC staff continued to support the SIG unit in the Office of School Transformation by assisting in the development of a visitation schedule for SIG staff to meet with schools/LEAs to discuss the evaluation model they will choose.
