Math Science Partnership (MSP) Project

The Louisiana Department of Education's office of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics requested Southeast Comprehensive Center support in providing professional development to Louisiana's Math Science Partnership grantees focusing on grade 8 mathematics including what rigorous classroom instruction looks like and how instructional coaches and administrators can support such instruction unique to the Common Core State Standards for mathematics.

2012


April

This project was removed form the SECC Year 7 work plan following a meeting with the Louisiana Department of Education Delivery Unit on April 26, 2012.


March

During March 2012, SECC program associates exchanged phone calls and e-mails with staff from Louisiana's Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Office to determine upcoming professional development opportunities for Louisiana's Math Science Partnership grantees. Based on the evaluations and comments from the professional development conducted in February, participants have requested upcoming professional development in examining student work.


February

During February 2012, SECC facilitated two, full-day professional development sessions focused on grade 8 mathematics including what rigorous classroom instruction looks like and how instructional coaches and administrators can support such instruction unique to the Common Core State Standards for mathematics. On February 7, 2012, more than 25 participants attended training in Ruston, Louisiana, and on February 9, 2012, more than 30 participants attended training in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Follow-up calls and e-mails were exchanged between SECC program associates and Louisiana Department of Education staff after the professional development to determine the impact of the professional development from participant evaluations and to plan next steps.

During January 2012, SECC program associates finalized professional development sessions and materials including online registration for Louisiana's Math Science Partnership participants.
