Literacy Initiatives – Adolescent Literacy Partnership Project
The Louisiana Department of Education's Literacy Goal Office invited schools to participate in a literacy partnership: the 2011-12 Adolescent Literacy Partnership Project (ALPP) in grades 6-8. The project's primary focus will be to increase the percentage of eighth-grade students scoring basic and above in English language arts on LEAP: 75% by 2014, with 90% as the ultimate goal.

May
As part of the completion of the ALPP project, SECC staff provided support to the Region 1 ALPP field staff with conducting school site visits at all ALPP schools. The purpose of these visits was to check students’ progress on Spring benchmarking data by comparing it to Fall and Winter benchmarks, and to provide feedback and recommendations for next year’s interventions.
April
SECC staff provided technical assistance and support to the Region 1 ALPP field staff by observing intervention classes, checking students’ progress monitoring data, and planning for the upcoming spring STEEP benchmarking.

SECC staff supported the Region 1 ALPP field staff by attending and participating in a Response to Intervention (RtI) meeting led by iSteep consultants at various school sites in Region 1. School personnel were able to process fully how to enter data accurately in the computer as well as discuss strategies for accelerating student progress. SECC staff also participated in checking progress monitoring and RtI review meetings and conducted observations of intervention instruction and providing feedback.

SECC staff provided support to the Region 1 ALPP field staff by attending a Response to Intervention meeting with the Adolescent Literacy Partnership Project (ALPP) schools. SECC staff participated in conversations on teaching strategies explicitly to all students, especially those who are struggling.

The Region 1 ALPP field staff supported ALPP schools by providing feedback and recommendations from observations of intervention instruction and progress monitoring data.
