Previous Work Updates

2013

April

During April, SECC program associates provided the first live Common Core State Standards (CCSS) English/language arts (ELA) video to the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) to use in its CCSS ELA training for teachers and administrators. SECC continues to support MDE CCSS implementation for mathematics with videos.

February

During February 2013, SECC program associate Camille Chapman attended a one-day follow-up training with grade 3–5 teachers and administrators implementing the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for mathematics. During the training, staff from the MDE Office of Curriculum and Instruction showed SECC math videos to participants, and photographs were taken to be used in SEDL publications. SECC continues to support MDE CCSS implementation for mathematics with videos; and videos to support English/language arts (ELA) CCSS implementation will be available on SECC’s website soon.

January

In January 2013, SECC program associates collaborated with the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) on the provision of research-based resources and emerging promising practices targeted to high-need populations. Additionally, SECC and MDE explored literacy professional development module support related to strategies and assessment driven interventions. SECC continues to support the MDE Common Core State Standards (CCSS) implementation for mathematics with videos, and videos to support English/language arts (ELA) CCSS implementation will be live soon. MDE plans to use the first CCSS ELA video in its upcoming training with schools and districts, and MDE staff will continue to use the CCSS mathematics videos when conducting professional development.
