Support for Implementing North Carolina’s Common Core State Standards


The SECC will work with North Carolina to strengthen their plans for implementing the CCSS by ensuring that they are

  1. identifying and providing to districts and schools high-quality resources that are supported by research-based and emerging promising practices,
  2. collecting feedback from districts, schools, and teachers to determine the quality, usefulness and relevance of the resources and supports they are providing, and
  3. adjusting and refining their implementation plans and resources to address identified needs or concerns.

This project is in the following state: North Carolina.

This project relates to the following ED Priorities:

  • Increasing the capacity of states to implement their key initiatives statewide and support the school-level implementation of effective practices
  • Using data-based decision-making to improve instructional practices, policies, and student outcomes

NCDPI has requested that SECC close this project. Work will continue under the Support for Implementing CCRS and Assessment project.

2015

April

SECC provided assessment resources to the NCDPI from the Center on Standards and Assessment Implementation relative to aligning standards and assessments as well as Common Core State Standards for use with English language learners.

2013

July

During June 2013, SECC program associates reviewed North Carolina’s Year 2 plan in anticipation of the support SECC will provide related to the implementation of Common Core State Standards and aligned assessment. SECC support will include:

  • Identifying and providing to districts and schools high-quality resources that are supported by research-based and emerging promising practices;
  • Collecting feedback from districts, schools, and teachers to determine the quality, usefulness, and relevance of the resources and supports they are providing; and
  • Adjusting and refining their implementation plans and resources to address identified needs or concerns.

May

During May 2013, SECC program associates developed an Information Request (IR) submitted by North Carolina regarding what Race to the Top states are doing to support their schools and districts with the implementation of the Common Core State Standards for English/ language arts and mathematics. The IR will be published and delivered to North Carolina in June.

During April, SECC program associates completed the initial draft of an Information Request (IR) made by North Carolina regarding what Race to the Top states are doing to support their schools and districts with the implementation of the Common Core State Standards for English/language arts and mathematics. The IR will be published and delivered to North Carolina in May.
