Como Molina

Concepcion Molina is a Program Associate with SEDL's Education Systems Support (ESS) program. In addition to supporting systemic reform efforts in mathematics, Dr. Molina works as part of the Southeast Comprehensive Center to assist state and intermediate education agencies in their efforts to implement the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Tasks and projects include the planning, design, and delivery of Comprehensive Center regional forums and meetings; assisting states with the revision of their content standards; and designing and delivering professional development to state agency staff on topics such as mathematics content, high school dropout prevention and reform models, systemic school reform, and math instruction for English language learners.

• Mathematics: Dr. Molina has extensive knowledge of secondary mathematics as a result of 14 years as a high school math teacher. During this time, he taught all high school math courses except calculus and statistics. His first 7 years at SEDL included designing and presenting professional development to elementary and middle school math teachers. In addition, he has done extensive research, including his dissertation, on the content knowledge of elementary and middle school math teachers.
• Leadership: Dr. Molina’s doctoral-level coursework focused on educational leadership. In addition, his work at SEDL over the past few years has focused on school improvement and systemic reform at the district level.

At SEDL, Dr. Molina's previous work has included using scientifically based research to guide the design, piloting, and delivery of mathematics professional development to clients in the five-state Southwest Consortium for the Improvement of Mathematics and Science Teaching (SCIMAST) region. In addition, he collaborated with other educational organizations and assisted in the dissemination of information that supported and promoted SCIMAST work.

Prior to joining SEDL in July 1998, Dr. Molina was a high school math teacher for 14 years. He also has prior experience in higher education as a college representative and minority recruiter with Texas A&M University-College Station.

Dr. Molina earned a BS in educational curriculum and instruction from Texas A&M University-College Station, an MS in educational administration from Corpus Christi State University, and an EdD from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
