Marion Baldwin

Marion Baldwin is a Program Associate with SEDL's Afterschool, Family, and Community unit. Ms. Baldwin works with the Illinois State Board of Education to provide technical assistance and professional development to the state's 21st Century Community Learning Center grantees. As part of this work, she assists the state department in building the capacity of grantees to provide high-quality afterschool programming for student participants in grades K–12.

Ms. Baldwin’s areas of expertise include staff and professional development, family and community engagement, development of community education and K–12 expanded learning programs, and college and career readiness.

• Family and Community: Ms. Baldwin’s expertise includes family and community engagement and capacity building; development and administration of community education programs; and technical assistance for schools, families, and communities to develop partnerships.
• Expanded Learning: Ms. Baldwin has more than 15 years of experience working with expanded learning (afterschool) programs as a strategy for school improvement. She has worked with 21st Century Community Learning Centers managing, coordinating, and providing professional development, K–12 and adult program development, and grant writing.

Previously at SEDL, Ms. Baldwin worked with the Texas and Southeast Comprehensive Centers assisting state departments to plan, design, and deliver technical assistance and professional development to strengthen family and community engagement in education. She also worked with the Afterschool, Family, and Community unit at SEDL to assist the California Department of Education in developing and implementing a statewide technical assistance program to support its 5,000 afterschool programs.

Before joining SEDL, she worked with state education departments, districts, schools, and private nonprofits to provide technical support to build capacity for engaging family and community and to develop partnerships. At the National Center for Community Education, she coordinated with every state to facilitate the national afterschool training for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers. This training focused on planning, developing, maintaining, scaling up, and sustaining effective afterschool programs. Ms. Baldwin began her career in expanded learning, family, and community in 1995 as director of community education for the Little Rock School District in Arkansas.

Ms. Baldwin is a former journalism teacher. She earned her bachelor's degree in interpersonal/organizational communications and her MEd degree in educational administration from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock.
