Experience/Education
Prior to joining SEDL in December 1997, Dr. Cowan served as an elementary school principal and a junior high school teacher. She has also facilitated Title 1 school improvement efforts through the Region XII Education Service Center in Waco, Texas.
Dr. Cowan earned her BS in Secondary Education at the University of Texas at Austin, her MS in Reading at Baylor University, and her mid-management/supervision certification at UT-Austin. She completed her EdD in the Educational Administration Department's Public School Executive Leadership Program at UT-Austin. Her dissertation was titled "Principals' Actions to Influence Change for School Success."
