Experience/Education
Before joining SEDL in May 2001, Dr. Neeley spent more than 30 years in an urban school district. Half of those years were focused on the improvement of reading in grades K–12. While serving as a secondary reading coordinator, an elementary reading coordinator, and a reading specialist, she facilitated classroom instruction, provided professional development, and wrote curriculum and reading grants.
The other portion of Dr. Neeley's public school career focused on school leadership. The school for which she served as an elementary principal was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School and by the Corporate Fund for Children as a Best of Texas school. The junior high school for which she served as a principal offered a magnet school curriculum in science, mathematics, language arts, and social studies. Her recent research has focused on issues of school safety and the prevention of violence in public schools.
Dr. Neeley holds a BS, an MA, and an MEd from the University of Texas at Austin and an EdD from Texas A&M University at College Station.
