School Improvement
Past Work
School improvement has always been at the core of SEDL’s work. Though the scope of our work has changed with different projects, the goal has remained the same: to help schools and districts strengthen instruction, learning, and leadership to improve academic achievement. Much of our 40 years of work under our Regional Educational Laboratory contracts involved improving school performance. Specifically, we worked to help low-performing schools and districts improve student achievement, especially in reading and mathematics. Most recently, our work included developing the Working Systemically approach, a rational planning process that relies on evidence-based identification of problems and working at all levels of the educational system. We also conducted field-based research and development at sites throughout the region. Our programs have all had the end goal of improving student achievement. Whether we were focused on science and technology or on reading and literacy, we have worked with educators across the country to meet this goal.
