School Improvement
Current Work
Southeast Comprehensive Center: SEDL’s Southeast Comprehensive Center (SECC) works with the state departments of education of Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina to build their capacity to implement the No Child Left Behind Act and to support high-needs districts and schools in improvement efforts. Our work with the individual states varies depending on the needs of each state. For example, in Mississippi, we have helped the Mississippi Department of Education revise professional development standards and the professional development monitoring instrument.Texas Comprehensive Center: SEDL’s Texas Comprehensive Center (TXCC) works with Texas Education Agency staff to build their capacity to implement the No Child Left Behind Act and to support high-needs schools in improvement efforts. Our work includes training regional service center staff to help principals’ meet with teachers as a faculty and on one-on-one for coaching sessions where they analyze data and use the results for improving student outcomes.
Center for Comprehensive School Reform and Improvement: SEDL provides content for and maintains the Web site of the Center for Comprehensive School Reform and Improvement. Led by Learning Point Associates, the center provides research-based resources and tools to assist schools and districts in their school improvement efforts.
Professional Development: SEDL offers professional development sessions related to implementing change and developing leadership. Our professional learning sessions have been developed from our knowledge of research and strong practices in communities, schools, and districts. We offer training on our Professional Teaching and Learning Cycle (PTLC), a powerful, standards-based professional development approach to improve classroom achievement in reading and mathematics. The PTLC helps inform the work of highly skilled facilitators who have the responsibility of guiding districts and schools in a long-term systemic improvement effort.
