Early Reading First: SEDL is working with the Madison Parish (Louisiana) school district to implement that state’s first Early Reading First project. SEDL staff are providing conceptual guidance, training and coaching, and evaluation services.National Center for Family and Community Connections with Schools: The National Center for Family and Community Connections with Schools provides resources and training addressing ways that families and communities can help boost their children’s engagement and academic achievement. Resources include a synthesis of recent research on readiness, with strategies for building children’s readiness skills.

Madison Parish Public Schools: SEDL is partnering with this Louisiana school district, which in August 2007 was awarded the state’s first Early Reading First grant from the U.S. Department of Education.National Center for Early Development and Learning: The Center’s director, Robert Pianta, a leading expert on early childhood development, has served as a member of the advisory board for SEDL’s National Center for Family and Community Connections with Schools. Dr. Pianta also served as expert reviewer for SEDL’s synthesis of the research addressing school readiness.
