Assessment

Past Work

SEDL has provided professional development on assessment to schools and school districts over the years. We worked directly with educators to identify assessment needs and discuss sample assessment items. We also helped educators analyze assessment data.

From October 2000 to September 2005, SEDL operated the SouthCentral Regional Technology in Education Consortium (SCRTEC), one of 10 consortia funded by the U.S. Department of Education charged with helping public education systems use technology for the improvement of teaching and learning. Under SCRTEC, SEDL staff developed three online self-assessment tools (one for students, one for teachers, and one for administrators) and two performance-based assessment tools (one for teachers and one for students) based on Louisiana technology standards for the Louisiana Center for Educational Technology.

SEDL also recently conducted a study, “The Impact of the Use of Graphing Calculators on Statewide Assessments,” that aimed to (1) determine the frequency, types, and purpose of the use of graphing calculators in high schools in Texas, and (2) examine the relationships among the frequency, types, and purposes of the use of graphing calculators in Texas high schools and student achievement as measured by scores on the Texas statewide mathematics assessments for high school students that require the use of graphing calculators.
