Afterschool doesn’t have a particularly long history; the focus on linking academic success to afterschool emerged in the last 10 years. SEDL has been involved with afterschool for almost that long. Cathy Jordan, director of the National Partnership for Quality Afterschool Leaning, and Wes Hoover, president and CEO of SEDL, both served on the National 21st Century Community Learning Centers Training Task Force from 1998–2003. The task force was created to develop and deliver training and professional development for all U.S. Department of Education 21st CCLC grantees across the United States.
