SEDL's work is guided by a 20-member board of directors. There are four representatives from Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.

State Department of Education Experience/Education
Ken James, EdD, currently serves as director of education for the Arkansas Department of Education. Previously, he oversaw programs and education policy implementation in 53 schools serving nearly 33,000 students as superintendent of Fayette County Public Schools. Dr. James has also served as assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent, and ultimately superintendent of schools in both Little Rock and Van Buren, Arkansas.
In 1998, Dr. James was named Superintendent of the Year for the State of Arkansas. He presently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for Lyon College and is a member of the University of Arkansas Educational Administration Steering Committee.
Dr. James holds a bachelor's degree from Arkansas State University, a master's degree in educational administration from Northern Arizona University, and an EdD in educational administration and supervision from Northern Arizona University and the United States International University in San Diego.
